Names… and whatever they mean..

Ryan Honey. Ryan from a very well known King way back old history and…Honey… name given to me by my Mom explaining that she wants the whole world to call me with this sweetest word…huh, lucky name but maybe not for a guy like me… well.. Sa kakasurf ko at pagtunganga sa harap ng monitor, napagalaman ko ang ibig sabihin ng mga pangalan ng mga ibat ibang kompanya at produkto…enjoy!

1. Accenture - Accent on the Future. Greater-than 'accent' over the logo's t points forward towards the future. The name Accenture was proposed by a company employee in Norway as part of an internal name finding process (BrandStorming). Prior to January 1, 2001 the company was called Andersen Consulting.

2. BenQ - Bringing ENjoyment and Quality to life

3. Coca-Cola - Coca-Cola's name is derived from the coca leaves and kola nuts used as flavoring. Coca-Cola creator John S. Pemberton changed the 'K' of kola to 'C' for the name to look better.

4. Compaq - from "comp" for computer, and "pack" to denote a small integral object; or: Compatibility And Quality; or: from the company's first product, the very compact Compaq Portable.

5. Daewoo - the company founder Kim Woo Chong called it Daewoo which means "Great Universe" in Korean.

6. Hotmail - Founder Jack Smith got the idea of accessing e-mail via the web from a computer anywhere in the world. When Sabeer Bhatia came up with the business plan for the mail service, he tried all kinds of names ending in 'mail' and finally settled for Hotmail as it included the letters "HTML" - the markup language used to write web pages. It was initially referred to as HoTMaiL with selective upper casing. (If you click on Hotmail's 'mail' tab, you will still find "HoTMaiL" in the URL.)

7. LEGO - combination of the Danish "leg godt", which means to "play well." Lego also means "I put together" in Latin, but LEGO Group claims this is only a coincidence and the etymology of the word is entirely Danish. Years before the little plastic brick was invented, LEGO manufactured wooden toys.

8. Lycos - from Lycosidae, the family of wolf spiders.

9. Nokia - started as a wood-pulp mill, the company expanded into producing rubber products in the Finnish city of Nokia. The company later adopted the city's name.

10. Yahoo! - a "backronym" for Yet Another Hierarchical Officious Oracle. The word Yahoo was invented by Jonathan Swift and used in his book Gulliver's Travels. It represents a person who is repulsive in appearance action and is barely human. Yahoo! founders David Filo and Jerry Yang selected the name because they jokingly considered themselves yahoos.

at ang pinakamalupet… Nintendo - Nintendo is composed of three Japanese Kanji characters, Nin-ten-do. The first two can be translated to "Heaven blesses hard work"; do is a common ending for any store.

Pinoy Jazz Festival

February 9, 2007

February 2007 will embark a new chapter for jazz musicians here in the Philippines. Together with our local jazz artists, they will perform with great performers from the different parts of the world such as:

FLORA PURIM, the world's reigning electroethnic jazz queen

AIRTO MOREIRA, the world's percussion king

DIANE SCHUUR, the world's premier jazz diva

ELDAR DJANGIROV, the world's new prince of jazz piano

The program was sponsored by the Philippine Jazz Festival... I was able to catch there previous activities last year at the Greenbelt 3 and Rajah Sulayman Park in Roxas Boulevard and the experience were awesome!

These were the highlights on the 1st Phil-American Jazz Festival:

1. Escola De Samba played New Orleans Jazz Afro Beat Style combining the power of Salsa and Samba

2. Performance of Bob Aves and Grace Nono presenting a fusion of Ethno Jazz

3. Guarana's Samba Song and Aguas De Marco

4. Our very own Mr. Mon David, Champion of the previously held London International Jazz Competition, jams with JFK and Brass Munkeys

5.  Brass Munkeys sings "Enter Sandman" Blues style 6.

Looking forward to see these local jazz enthusiasts perform… and the Ethno Music Group, Pinikpikan!

 Kudos to the organizers!
